Cactus House Plants Are Actually Amazing Plants That Will Beautify Any House

The market in cactus house plants is booming and with very good reason. These spiky little guys are great fun, easy to maintain and extremely beautiful. So why do so many people ignore them?

Many individuals seem to have this idea that the cactus is a spiny little plant which does not really add to the style of your room. Well these folks need to suppose again.

The first and most obvious species which is far from small, spiky and boring is the Christmas cactus. This is actually a lovely plant to have around the house. It's also an easy plant to keep. This indoor plant doesn't like to get completely bone dry, but will only need watering every couple of weeks. If you want to encourage the plant to flower you could leave it in a cool part of the home for about two weeks, never put it in the freezing cold. This would then flower about four to six weeks after you return it to its normal place.

The simplicity of the care for this plant and the prettiness make it a terrific holiday season present as it is guaranteed to decorate any home.

Along with the Christmas cactus there's also an Easter version. This has a larger range of colours of bloom just like yellow, pink, peach, red and white. Similar to its Christmas cousin, flowering is induced by the cold.

Admittedly the above two plants are a little different from the ordinary cactus house plants. But there are plenty of spiky cacti which have gorgeous flowers which last a very long time.

The Barrel cactus is a great example of a spiky plant producing attractive flowers. The blooms are present in a large range, from striking red to a calm yellow. These flowers grow at the end to the prickles and actually used by the Native Americans in stews and boiled to make beverages.

One other cactus offering a pleasantly surprising flower is the Beavertail cacti. These plants could be low to the ground, but they might have larger than expected red and lavender colored flowers. The flowers will normally be approximately three inches, so they create an attractive plant.

So rethink your image of cactus house plants and you would quickly realise that these are not little, spiky, unattractive, desert plants.
