The right implementation of time can lead to increased work performance. Simple changes such as assigning small tasks can be done to achieve this. A huge time killer in most places of work is the internet. If you make use of the internet, allocate time for it and don't use it otherwise.

On the other hand, the right use of free time can lead to many things including a whole new job. Those additional 8 hours can be used to develop a skill, start a hobby, find alternative careers and so on. Things to consider with time that is yours to do as you wish is to think about tasks that have absolutely no positive value. This can be simplistic things like cutting back on video games or television. While these devices serve the purpose of entertaining, they only kill time which as we know is a limited resource.
